Health & Insurance

Medical Insurance

Mid-Columbia Libraries offers comprehensive, employer/employee paid medical insurance. Employees that regularly work 20+ hours/week have the option to choose between a variety of plans administered through the Washington State Health Care Authority - Public Employees Benefits Board (PEBB).

Dental Insurance

Eligible employees may choose from a variety of dental plans at no additional cost to them. Now that's something to smile about!

Life Insurance

We provide a basic Term Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) benefit at no cost to eligible employees. Employees may enhance this benefit by purchasing additional optional coverage.

Long-Term Disability (LTD)

We also offer a basic LTD policy at no cost to the employee. Eligible employees may enhance this benefit by purchasing optional coverage and shortening waiting periods.

Retirement Benefits

Employees hired into regular positions and work at least 70 hours/month are immediately eligible for participation in the Washington State Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS). Employees have an option to choose between two plans, which both offer a defined benefit. This means when you meet plan requirements and retire, you are guaranteed a monthly benefit for the rest of your life!*

Employees also have the option to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP); a voluntary investment program which provides an opportunity for employees to set aside pretax dollars into a supplemental retirement account.

Tuition & Certification Assistance

MCL is committed to the professional development of its employees. Financial assistance is available to eligible employees for completion of professional certifications, undergraduate degrees, and Masters in Library & Information Science graduate degrees.

Bilingual Incentive Program

MCL serves a culturally diverse population and provides a number of services in Spanish. We value these skills, as they are an integral part in connecting with our local community. Staff in eligible positions that can speak, read and write in Spanish receive two additional floating holidays annually.

Employee Assistance Program

As a resource for life's ups and downs, MCL offers an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to all of its employees. The EAP is a 24-7 confidential counseling and referral program. Consultations are provided at no cost and if additional help is needed, EAP will help locate resources for ongoing assistance.
