Job Summary

Mid-Columbia Libraries (MCL) serves the residents of Benton, Franklin, and parts of Adams counties through 12 branch libraries. We are currently seeking a community- focused leader to serve as aBranch Managerwith a desire to empower people, support learning and strengthen our Othello community. In this role, the Branch Manager will act as a liaison with the local community; plan and promote library programs, services, and resources; manage library staff (at least two (2) direct reports); monitor library and collection usage; and resolve any customer concerns. The Branch Manager will develop and implement branch goals, objectives, programs and plans while demonstrating good stewardship of library resources in accordance with the mission, budget, policies, and procedures of MCL. This position requires the ability to respond to a variety of situations, interact with diverse populations, and have a desire to serve the public.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Develops, implements, maintains and monitors operating procedures and practices to insure efficient, effective and accountable service to library customers and safe operation and maximum utilization of the library facilities, equipment and collection.
  • Coordinates the development and maintenance of adequate and up‐to‐date branch collections through the selection and discarding process and ensures that the branch collection meets community needs and wants. Directs and provides the circulation and library materials handling functions to ensure that materials move efficiently through the branch and policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Provides public service information, reference, and readers’ advisory services in person, by telephone or electronically. As appropriate, may refer or redirect questions to other MCL resources.
  • Explains MCL policies and procedures to library customers and staff and resolves related questions and concerns; investigate complaints and recommends corrective action as necessary.
  • 计划,prioritizes, assigns, supervises and reviews the work of all staff inclusive of union contract employees and volunteers to ensure efficient and effective branch operations; participate in selection of staff; provide and/or coordinate training; conducts performance appraisals; works with employees to correct deficiencies; and resolves a wide range of personnel issues and difficult situations.
  • Develops and submits branch budget request, forecasting needs for staffing, facilities, equipment, materials and supplies; monitors expenditures throughout the fiscal year to ensure that they are kept within the approved budget; participates in discussions regarding budget adjustments.
  • 计划,presents and/or supervises programs for children, young adults and adults, including story hours, instruction in the use of the library and library tours. Evaluates operations and activities of the branch; recommends improvements and modifications; prepares various reports on operations and activities.
  • Acts as liaison with the local community, organizations, and school district; cultivates and maintains good relationships; ensures that community groups are kept informed of library programs and services; coordinates branch publicity and merchandizing with Communications Department.

Branch Manager III + MLIS: $4,903.60 - $5,685.33/month DOQ + benefits including paid time off (sick, vacation, holidays), healthcare, Washington State PERS retirement, union-represented, and $2,000 annual bilingual premium pay available!

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college.
  • Three years of relevant experience such as customer service, retail and/or community outreach.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid Washington State driver’s license

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts/Science degree
  • Experience working in a public library setting
  • Lead or supervisory experience desirable OR equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience
  • Knowledge of technological devices (such as eReaders & tablets) and their application
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
  • Involvement in the local community
  • Master of Library Science degree and Washington State Librarian certificate
